Description:

1987 Honda Aero 50 Scooter

Six hundred and ninety miles in 37 years. That tells you everything you need to know about how this little Honda has been treated. The 1987 Honda Aero 50 was part of a wave of stylish step-through scooters that Honda brought to market during the 1980s scooter boom, designed for urban commuting and casual use. They sold well everywhere they were offered and Honda's reputation for reliability meant they just kept going, even when parked. This one was mostly parked.

The red bodywork retains a strong original gloss with consistent colour across all panels. The dark blue accent stripe and AERO decals are intact and legible. The grey plastic leg shield, floorboard and handlebar cowl are all crack-free, which is genuinely impressive for aged plastics. The seat is in very good nick with no tears or cracking in the vinyl and the original HONDA embossing visible at the rear.

Both factory accessories are present: the cream wire front basket (no rust, no deformation) and the black rear luggage rack. The 50cc single-cylinder engine with its twist-and-go 3-speed automatic is a proven design that will start and run well once recommissioned after its long sleep.

Speaking of which, this one needs the usual long-storage service before it goes back on the road: fresh fuel, carby clean, new battery, and new tyres (the rubber is age-hardened regardless of the low mileage). There are paint chips on the right rear body panel near the fuel cap that are worth noting.

VIN plate is clean and legible. Electric start is fitted. Key is present. For a vintage scooter collector, a cafe owner looking for some retro character, or someone who just wants a charming piece of 1980s Japan in the garage, this ticks a lot of boxes. Recommission it and it will be an absolute joy.
