Description:

1965 Triumph T120 Bonneville

The Triumph T120 Bonneville is one of the most important motorcycles ever built. Named after the Bonneville Salt Flats where Triumph's Johnny Allen hit 214 mph in 1956, the T120 became the benchmark for performance motorcycles through the late 1950s and 1960s, ridden by everyone from cafe racers to Hollywood stars. This 1965 example is a comprehensively restored bike that presents superbly across every panel.

The red tank is finished in a deep, glossy red with correct chrome Triumph badges and a period parcel rack. Chrome mudguards carry a fine red pinstripe. The twin exhaust system has been re-chromed to a mirror finish with no pitting or discolouration. The twin Amal carburettors are fitted correctly, distinguishing this as a proper twin-carb Bonneville rather than the single-carb TR6 Trophy. Alloy engine cases, primary cover and timing cover are all clean and correct, with the original Triumph script and checkered flag badge present.

Restoration extras include new tyres, new wiring harness, new speedometer and tachometer, electronic ignition, a 12-volt modern charging system, new carburettors and a recent engine rebuild. The instruments read just 8 miles since restoration.

One item for buyer attention: the engine number carries a '6T' prefix, which is associated with the Triumph Thunderbird rather than the T120 Bonneville. The frame number (T120DU6807) is correct for a 1965 Bonneville. Buyers wanting a matching-numbers example should verify the engine provenance with the vendor before bidding. That said, non-matching or replacement engines are common in restored Triumph twins and the actual specification (twin carbs, correct cases, rebuilt to Bonneville spec) is what matters to most riders and restorers.

This is the bike that defined an era. Collector, rider, investor, it works for all three. A serious and committed restoration that will draw attention at any show or ride.
