1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II - Peacock Blue - 237,712km - Final Year of Production - Documented Service History
The last of the Silver Shadow line, in a bold colour with its logbooks and original handbook.
Overview
The 1980 model year holds a specific place in Rolls-Royce history: it was the final year of Silver Shadow production before the Silver Spirit arrived in 1981. After fifteen years and more than 16,000 cars built, the Shadow had become the most commercially successful Rolls-Royce ever made up to that point, defining what a modern ultra-luxury automobile should be for an entire generation. This 1980 example is a Silver Shadow II (confirmed by the bootlid badge and the Australian compliance plate, which reads Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II Saloon, chassis SRH40124), bringing with it the rack-and-pinion steering and revised suspension geometry introduced in 1977 that made the Shadow II a substantially better driver than its predecessor. It is, in a meaningful sense, the best Silver Shadow they ever built, and one of the last.
Exteriorly, this Shadow presents in Peacock Blue, a deep jewel-toned paint that suits the Shadow body beautifully and carries good gloss and depth across the panels. Panel gaps are consistent, the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot stands on the upright vertical-slat radiator grille, and the original Rolls-Royce chrome hubcaps with RR crest centre caps are fitted on all four corners with Bridgestone tyres showing reasonable tread. The chrome bumpers and exterior brightwork are presentable throughout. Inside, the cream leather interior is honest in its condition at this age and mileage. The seat leather throughout shows significant cracking and drying consistent with 45 years of use, and the boot carpet requires replacement. The door card burr walnut veneer is intact on most cards, though the lacquer shows crazing and peeling on some panels consistent with the vehicle's age. The factory identification plate on the firewall confirms chassis SRH40124. The original instrument cluster reads 237,712 kilometres. Service logbooks and documentation are present, and the original Silver Shadow II / Bentley T2 Owner's Handbook is included alongside Australian-specification service schedules.
