Description:

1973 Toyota Celica TA22

A modified and restored TA22 Celica finished in Blue, built as a GTV-style replica and enhanced with extensive engine, suspension, braking, and driveline upgrades. Odometer indicates 91,305 km.

Originally from Canberra, this Celica underwent a full rebuild in 2007 and was purchased by the current owner in 2008, then stored for 14 years. It features a 1.8-litre hybrid engine using a 2TG twin-cam head and 3T bottom end, paired with a T50 5-speed manual and upgraded differential, suspension, and braking systems.

TA22 Celica Model History

Launched in the early 1970s, the first-generation Celica (including the TA22) marked Toyota’s entry into the global sports coupe market. Light, stylish, and mechanically simple, the TA22 quickly became popular among enthusiasts and motorsport competitors. With its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and responsive handling, the early Celica became a tuner favourite — particularly in Japan, where GTV variants were celebrated for their sporting focus. Today, well-prepared and tastefully modified TA22s remain highly desirable classic Japanese coupes.
