1975 BMW R100 – Café Style Project

BMW's airhead boxers from the 1970s have earned a devoted following that only grows stronger with time. This 1975 BMW R100 cafe project is a solid foundation for someone who wants to build something genuinely cool rather than buy something already finished by someone else.

This one wears a smart two-tone white and black paint scheme, has been fitted with a later 1000cc boxer engine in place of the original 900cc unit, a common and well-regarded upgrade in the airhead community. Already done and fitted are a Tri-Spark electronic ignition, a Lester cast alloy rear mag wheel, a new battery, and a 2-into-2 black-painted exhaust system that suits the cafe direction nicely.

The odometer reads 48,000 km. On a BMW airhead that is not a lot, and these engines are known to go hundreds of thousands of kilometres with basic maintenance. The engine cases look dry and clean, the carburettor is in place, and the vendor says it starts and runs.

What you are getting is a project, not a finished show bike. The front end currently carries a burgundy fender that does not match the rest of the paint, and the mixed wheel combination gives it a purposeful custom look that suits the cafe direction. The fork gaiters are intact, the shaft drive is sound, and the frame shows no damage or cracks. The seat has a custom cafe-style rear hump with decorative stripes.
