1962 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop - Cream - 390ci V8, Cruise-O-Matic Auto, Left Hand Drive, Custom Wire Wheels

1962 Ford Thunderbird 2-Door Hardtop, Rear Wheel Drive, 390ci (6.4L) V8 Petrol, 3-Speed Automatic, Left Hand Drive, 5 Seats

Description

The third-generation "Bullet Bird" Thunderbird (1961-1963) marked Ford's shift from two-seat sports car to four-seat personal luxury coupe, and the 1962 model refined the swooping, jet-age design language with its distinctive rocket-pod taillights, full-width grille, and cockpit-style interior. Powered by the torquey 390ci FE-series V8, these T-Birds were built for boulevard cruising, and this cream-over-black example captures that early 1960s American glamour beautifully.

Finished in cream with a black vinyl interior, this Thunderbird presents well with straight panels and good overall paint gloss. The black vinyl interior is in very good condition throughout, with front bucket seats and rear bench showing clean, supple upholstery with intact horizontal pleating. The original-style dash with its brushed aluminium trim panels, Thunderbird script badges, and full gauge cluster remains complete. Under the bonnet, the 390ci FE V8 is painted in correct Ford Corporate Blue and appears largely stock. The car has been fitted with aftermarket chrome multi-spoke wire wheels on modern low-profile tyres, which give it a custom stance. The fender skirts have been removed but are included in the trunk. An aftermarket retro-styled radio with auxiliary input has been installed. Chrome trim throughout shows honest age patina with some dulling on the bumpers and bezels. The Ford data plate confirms Body 63A (Thunderbird Hardtop), Z-code 390 V8, built at Wixom.

Early 1960s Thunderbirds have a strong following among American classic enthusiasts, and as a left-hand drive import this car retains its authentic American specification. Recent US auction results have ranged from USD $9,400 for driver-quality examples (Bring a Trailer, August 2024) up to USD $48,160 for well-presented cars (Broad Arrow Auctions, October 2025). In the Australian market, comparable T-Birds have been listed from around $39,000 AUD. The custom wire wheels and stance give this one a distinctive personality that will appeal to buyers looking for show-car presence with classic American flair.
