1968 Chrysler VE Valiant Sedan - Blue - 78,969 Miles - 225ci Slant Six, Original Survivor

Price Guide: $6,000 - $10,000

1968 Chrysler VE Valiant 4-door sedan, 225ci inline 6-cylinder, automatic transmission, RHD, 78,969 miles indicated, unrestored original.

Description

The VE Valiant is one of the most distinctly styled Chrysler Australias ever built, its American-influenced lines and upright greenhouse giving it a presence that smaller European cars of the era couldn't match. The 225 cubic inch Slant Six is one of the most durable engine designs Chrysler ever produced, with a reputation for going well beyond 200,000 miles with basic maintenance. These VE sedans are becoming genuine collectibles as original survivors thin out, and an unrestored example with documented history is a different proposition to a restored car.

This VE presents as a genuine unrestored survivor in honest condition. The blue exterior is faded and oxidised throughout, which is expected on a car of this age that hasn't been painted. The body is largely straight with no obvious major dents from standard viewing angles, though the lower body panels and door sills show the surface rust typical of a classic that has seen real-world use over five decades. Photos reveal a drilled hole in the rear quarter trim area, likely a previous antenna or accessory mount, which will need attention. The engine bay retains its original Chrysler teal-painted 225ci Slant Six, and the casting number 2463430 photographed is consistent with the Chrysler 225ci engine family. The interior tells a similar story: original blue-teal vinyl bench seat with wear and some tearing at the seat bolster, an aftermarket wood-rim steering wheel, and a fluffy dashboard cover concealing the original dash. The instrument cluster reads 78,969 miles on the original dual mph/km/h speedometer, consistent with the listing. The chassis plate reads BLN 1249 MF 379 and shows surface rust from age and storage.

Unrestored VE Valiants in honest driver condition are trading between $8,000 and $15,000 on the Australian market, with the better end of that range reserved for cars with straight bodies and complete mechanicals. This car earns its place as a restoration project or sympathetic preservation piece. The Slant Six's legendary durability means the fundamentals are likely sound even if the cosmetics need work.
