1977 Triumph Bonneville T140V - Black/Chrome - 23,643km - Classic British Twin with Service History
Price Guide: $6,000 - $9,000
1977 Triumph Bonneville T140V | 750cc parallel twin | rear chain drive | 23,643km | black and chrome
Description
The Triumph Bonneville T140V is the definitive classic British motorcycle. By 1977 Triumph had been refining the parallel twin formula for nearly three decades, and the T140V represented the Bonneville at its most developed, with a 750cc engine displacing up from the original 650 and featuring a five-speed gearbox. The Bonneville name had won the Daytona 200, set the world land speed record, and appeared in countless films by the time this example was built. They remain the most recognisable British motorcycle ever made, and demand from collectors and riders is as strong as it has ever been.
This example presents in honest, largely original condition consistent with its 23,643km reading. The black and chrome finish suits the era well. The T140 parallel twin engine cases are clean and well-maintained, the polished primary chaincase presents with good lustre, and the Bonneville 750 side panel badge is clearly legible. Amal carburettors are fitted. The dual instrument cluster with speedometer and tachometer is present, and the dual bench seat appears in very good condition with vertical tuck-and-roll vinyl upholstery showing no tears or splits. The frame number stamp is visible and matches the recorded VIN T140VAP81275, and the engine number T140V AP81275 is confirmed matching. The photos include documentation, with invoices from Ironhorse Restorations (Maddington WA) and Moylan's Automotive Repairs (Wanneroo WA) showing recent maintenance including front brake master cylinder, carburettor overhaul kits, gearbox seal, clutch components, primary gasket, and clutch and wheel cables. This is a bike with a documented mechanical history, not a dry-stored unknown. Hagon aftermarket rear shocks are fitted. Trials-pattern front tyre is fitted rather than the standard road tyre.
Comparable 1977 Triumph Bonneville T140V examples in similar condition are currently listed on the market between AUD $14,000 and $22,000, with well-documented, maintained examples at the upper end. The service documentation with this bike supports confident bidding. For the collector seeking an iconic and rideable classic British twin with provenance, this Bonneville is a sound acquisition.
