Two prominent bleached dead tree trunks rise vertically from still water at the composition's centre, their pale forms creating a stark contrast against the warm burnt-orange, brown, and golden sky behind them. Living trees and dense scrubby bushland flank both sides of the water, and the calm surface carries reflections of both sky and tree. A white bird, possibly an egret, is visible near the water's edge in the lower right, a quiet detail that rewards close attention. The dramatic tonal contrast between the luminous sky and the silhouetted foreground forms is the compositional strength of the work.<br>
