Theo Tobiasse was born in Jaffa in 1927 and raised in Paris, where he survived the Second World War and went on to become one of the most celebrated Jewish artists of the 20th century. His work draws deeply on biblical narrative, Jewish heritage, and the traditions of Eastern European folk culture, rendered in a vibrant, expressionistic palette that sits somewhere between Chagall and the School of Paris. He exhibited extensively in France and internationally, and his works feature in public and private collections across Europe, North America, and Australia.<br>

This large-format colour lithograph on Arches paper is typical of Tobiasse's mature output. The composition fills the picture plane with dancing figures, a blue donkey, floral motifs, and richly patterned decorative elements, all woven around the titular inscription which appears within the image itself: "l'amour sur fond de chant biblique." The lithograph is printed in bold, layered colour with the kind of joyful intensity that defined Tobiasse's vision. Printed on Arches paper and hand-signed in pencil, this is a well-presented example. COA from Collins and Kent International Fine Art is included with the lot.<br>
