Description:

1973 Volkswagen Kombi Westfalia Pop-Top Camper T2 - Brilliant Orange / Cream - Complete Westfalia Fitout, 2.0L Engine Upgrade, LHD

A genuine, complete Westfalia factory camper in one of the most desirable colours on the planet. This is the van everyone pictures when they talk about driving around Australia.

Description

A Westfalia pop-top T2 in Brilliant Orange is one of those vehicles that stops people in their tracks. This 1973 example has what counts most: the complete Westfalia factory interior is still in there, fitted out with the original wooden cabinetry, stainless sink, folding table, plaid bench seat that converts to a bed, and orange curtains throughout. It has not been stripped out and turned into a day van. It is a proper camper and it presents as one, with that cream Westfalia-script pop-top sitting neatly closed above the vivid orange bodywork. This is exactly what the market wants.

The Brilliant Orange paint is consistent and glossy all the way around. Panels are straight. All glass is intact. Chrome trim and exterior hardware are present. The orange-on-white VW logo spare tyre cover on the nose is a lovely period touch that completes the look. Inside the cab, the orange vinyl door cards and original plaid seat fabric are in good shape, and the black plastic T2b dashboard carries a period Sapphire radio in the factory position.

Vendor advises the engine has been upgraded to 2.0 litres (factory was 1.6L), with carburettors rebuilt and fresh brakes and tyres fitted. This is a left-hand drive vehicle, which is correct for a German-built Westfalia Camper of this era. The chassis number 2342068457 is confirmed by both the factory VIN plate (Volkswagenwerk AG, Typ 23-517) and the body-stamped number. Buyers should note that some surface rust is visible at the chassis stamp area and engine bay body edges, and a thorough inspection is recommended before purchase.
