Overview
The Jaguar Sovereign V12 is the flagship of the XJ Series III range, and this 1986 example makes an immediate impression. Built in November 1985 and delivered new to Australia through JRA Limited, it carries the factory paint code JDM in dark blue metallic with cream and tan leather interior trim (code AFEELZ). The combination is authoritative and understated in equal measure - exactly what the Sovereign was designed to be.
The dark blue metallic paint is the standout feature of this car. The gloss is strong and consistent across all panels, with no fading or heavy oxidation. Body lines are straight, panel gaps are even, and the chrome window surrounds, bumpers, door handles and brightwork all present well. The Jaguar leaping cat bonnet mascot is in place. The lattice-style alloy wheels wear Continental tyres and suit the period spec of the car. The Sovereign and V12 bootlid badges are in excellent condition.
Inside, the cabin carries the full Sovereign treatment: burr walnut veneer across the full-width dashboard and door inserts, a comprehensive Smiths instrument cluster with tachometer, 260km/h speedometer, fuel gauge and water temperature, supplemented by the Jaguar electronic trip computer with green LED display showing fuel, distance, time and average speed functions. The original Jaguar cassette radio is fitted. The four-speed automatic selector is mounted on the burr walnut centre console alongside the HVAC controls. The rear seat presents in cream leather with tan headrests and a fold-down central armrest. Vendor advises the original service logbook is with the vehicle.
Under the bonnet sits Jaguar's 5.3 litre High Efficiency V12, one of the smoothest naturally aspirated engines fitted to any production car.
