1960 BMW R60 - White - 2,088km - 590cc Flat Twin - Classic Earles Fork Era Boxer
One of BMW's most distinctive classics from the Earles fork era, showing an exceptional 2,088 kilometres in a sympathetic restoration.
Overview
The BMW R60 of the late 1950s and early 1960s represents a pivotal chapter in the Bavarian marque's history. Powered by the tried-and-tested 590cc overhead-valve flat twin and fitted with the characteristic Earles leading-link front suspension, these machines have a presence and a mechanical character that the later telescopic-fork models simply cannot replicate. If you want the quintessential vintage BMW experience, this is the generation to have.
This 1960 example has been finished in white with period-correct black pinstripe tank graphics and the original BMW roundel badge. The Denfeld solo saddle is correct for the model, as are the chrome crash bars, chrome exhausts with bullet-style mufflers, and wire-spoked wheels. The Earles front suspension looks as purposeful as the day it left Munich. The odometer reads 2,088 kilometres, a figure that is remarkable for any motorcycle of this era. Whether that reflects restoration mileage or simply careful stewardship over six decades, the low reading is very visible in the condition of the machine.
The engine, with matching number 624020 stamped into the crankcases, shows clean finned cylinder heads, a correct Bing carburettor, and properly routed cables throughout. The chrome work on the exhaust system, crash bars, headlight nacelle, and wheel rims is in good order. The tank paint is clean with good gloss. This is a bike that has clearly been looked after.
