Description:

1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow - Silver Blue - Australian Delivery - 20-Year Single Owner - Extensive Receipt History

One of Britain's finest, delivered new to Sydney and kept by the same custodian for two decades.

Overview

The Silver Shadow is the Rolls-Royce that changed everything. Introduced in 1965, it was the first Rolls to use a monocoque body instead of a separate chassis, the first with fully independent suspension on all four corners, and the first with a self-levelling hydraulic system that had more in common with aircraft engineering than conventional automotive practice. By 1976, the Shadow was at the height of its development, refined through a decade of production into the smoothest, most capable large luxury car money could buy. It was the choice of royalty, heads of state, and captains of industry the world over, and that reputation has only grown with time.

This particular Shadow has an unusually clean provenance for its age. The original York Motors dealer plate (York Motors, 601 William St, Sydney, Stock No R631) confirms Australian market delivery from new, and vendor advises ownership since 2005, making this a genuine 20-year single-custodian car. The documentation presented with the vehicle includes original manuals, the workbook, and vendor advises an extensive receipt history spanning the ownership period. That kind of paper trail on a 50-year-old Rolls-Royce is rare and valuable.

Exteriorly, this Shadow presents in Silver Blue (factory paint code 9500434), a period-correct and thoroughly elegant colour that shows the clean lines of the Shadow body to their full advantage. The body lines are true and straight, the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot sits correctly on the upright vertical-slat radiator grille, and the chrome bumpers and brightwork are presentable throughout. The chrome hubcaps are fitted on all four corners with whitewall tyres, giving the car exactly the period-correct presence it deserves. Inside, the dark leather upholstery and burr walnut veneer throughout the cabin are intact, with the leather presenting with honest patina from genuine use. The original instruments and switchgear remain in place, and the original radio has been supplemented with an aftermarket head unit. Chassis plate and engine number SRH24521 are consistent with the listing documentation and visible in photos.
