Overview
The MGB Mark II arrived in 1967 with a revised all-synchromesh gearbox, and the factory Laycock de Normanville overdrive option transformed it from a spirited sports car into something genuinely capable on long runs. This 1969 example carries the engine prefix 18GBUH29047, with the H in that code confirming factory overdrive from day one. It is not a conversion. The "Overdrive" boot badge and the original "NORMAL / OVERDRIVE" dashboard switch tell the same story. Over half a million MGBs were built between 1962 and 1980 but factory overdrive cars, particularly in early chrome-bumper form, are the ones collectors want.

The body is presented beautifully, with deep gloss red paint across all panels and no visible waves or repairs. Chrome wire wheels are fitted all round in excellent condition with Pirelli tyres. The chrome grille, bumpers, bumperettes, sill strip, windscreen surround, and mirror are all correct and clean. The MK II badge sits on the rear quarter alongside the Overdrive script badge. The boot lid, door panels, and bonnet all present straight.
Inside, the original Smiths dual-gauge cluster, radio, toggle switches, and heater controls are all present and functional. The original "NORMAL / OVERDRIVE" rotary switch is in place on the dashboard. A period Moto-Lita 3-spoke steering wheel with MG hub badge has been fitted in place of the original item. The black vinyl seats are clean and solid, MG-badged floor mats are fitted, and the aluminium sill plates with laurel wreath MG badge show honest wear from genuine use. The tonneau cover is included.
The 1.8-litre B-series four-cylinder with twin SU carburettors presents cleanly in the engine bay with no obvious leaks or modifications from factory specification.
