1975 Range Rover First Generation - Red/Black - 85,004km - 3.5L V8 Manual 4WD - New Upholstery
The original Range Rover. First-generation, UK-built, manual gearbox, with new upholstery and genuine usable mileage. One of the most influential vehicles ever made.
Overview
The Range Rover launched in 1970 and changed everything. Before it, you were either driving a comfortable road car or a capable 4x4. It was the first to prove you could have both. Fifty-plus years later, the original two-door body remains the definitive expression of that idea. This 1975 example is UK-built by Rover-British Leyland at Solihull, England, with chassis number 35623971D, and was brought to Australia via the Leyland Motor Corporation of Australia. It carries 85,004 kilometres on the odometer, which for a vehicle of this age and provenance represents genuine, honest use without excess.
Under the aluminium bonnet sits the 3.5-litre Rover V8, the lightweight alloy engine derived from the Buick 215 that has powered Range Rovers, MGB GTs, and Land Rovers across five decades. It is one of the most supported classic engines in the world, with parts, rebuild kits, and specialist knowledge available globally. Backed by a four-speed manual transmission and the original part-time four-wheel-drive system with diff lock, this is the powertrain combination that defined the Range Rover's go-anywhere reputation. The engine bay presents tidily with chrome rocker covers and a chrome dome air filter housing giving it period appeal.
The bodywork presents in striking red with a black vinyl roof, an unmistakably Range Rover combination. The paint has excellent depth and gloss, with straight panels and correct gaps throughout. The black painted plastic bumpers show appropriate age patina. All glass is present and clear. The interior has received new camel/tan fabric and vinyl upholstery throughout, with new door cards fitted all round. The front and rear seats are clean and fresh. Cooper Discoverer A/T tyres on the original silver five-bolt steel wheels give this vehicle a practical, go-anywhere readiness. A CURT-rated tow receiver and towball are fitted to the rear, confirming this vehicle has been used rather than just stored.
