Made and signed between 1698 - 1705 by Jan van der Buergen, also known as Jan Verburg, at De Grieksche A (The Greek A) pottery factory in Delft. The pattern is a variation of the early popular peacock's tail or flower arrangement in typical cobalt blue applied under the white tin glaze, finished with a yellow ochre rim.
This plate is in remarkably fine condition for its 320-something years of age, with only a few minor chips on the rim and backing flaws. There are also some small irregularities on the surface that appear to have existed at the time the plate was fired. The plate is intended to be hung and has a small hole for that purpose on the back.
